FIFA World Cup is the most illustrious footballing tournament in the world. The international tournament is hosted by FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) for senior men’s/women’s football teams across the globe. The men’s event takes place every four years since the inaugural tournament in 1930. However, it was not held in 1942 and 1946 because of the World War II (another reason to hate the World War). Since the first edition of the tournament, there have been 20 FIFA World Cups in 16 different nations. The running FIFA World Cup 2018 takes the tally to 21 editions in 17 different countries. Let me provide you with a quick winner’s guide for every WC tournament.

Most Successful FIFA World Cup Teams:

  1. Brazil holds the record for winning the trophy 5 times in 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994, and 2002.
  2. Italy and Germany sit on the second slot winning 4 cups in 1934, 1938, 1982 & 2006 and 1954, 1974, 1990 & 2014 respectively.
  3. Third place is shared by Argentina and Uruguay winning 2 cups in 1978 & 1986 and 1930 & 1950 respectively.
  4. In the fourth place, we have France (1998), England (1966) and Spain (2010) with one cup victory each.

Only 8 different nations have won the trophy out of all the competing nations which gives an idea of how hard it is to win one. FIFA World Cup 2018 is up and running. Only 4 teams are left which includes 2 previous WC winner and 2 who are at a duck.

The FIFA World Cup 2018 already has a fair share of shocks and delights like all other sports, only, to a far extreme level. Powerhouses of football like Germany, Spain, Brazil and Argentina have already boarded the flight. France and England are most likely the favorites to win but let’s not get our hopes up too soon. Croatia and Belguim have already shown their will to win the cup. Let's not get overcofident like that crazy Englishman who already has a tattoo saying, “England 2018 World Cup Winners.”

The Semi-finals of this year’s World Cup kicks off are scheduled on 10th-11th July 2018. Make sure to hold on to your hats because you haven’t seen it all yet!
